A message of thanks to her donors:

“f’as@^! s@nlA k’ayasOTa / thank you for your support with the Yuchi Language Library Expansion Project. I am thrilled that more Yuchi Legends will be illustrated and be more accessible to our language learners. Having images to go with the legends brings them to life and helps us to transmit those important cultural stories. s@nlA k’adEta / I appreciate you!” - Aubrey Skeeter

Goal: Create more Yuchi language and cultural materials to teach learners traditional legends and to enhance their literacy and language skills.

The Need: The Yuchi people live primarily in Northeastern Oklahoma. Since the 1990s, The Yuchi Language Project (YLP) has been working to reclaim the Yuchi language via documentation and community classes. Using dA’ElA, or legends, told by Yuchi elders, that have been transcribed into books, second language learners and first language child learners are able to grasp onto a language that may otherwise be lost.

I have made it a priority in my son’s life to have him exposed to as much of the Yuchi language as possible since birth. As he continues to grow and develop, it is a top priority of mine to make sure that he is able to continue to grow his language and literacy as well.”
