Meet Dr. Nathaniel Ramos
A message of thanks to his donors:
“Thank you for supporting my multi-generational literacy project! I am excited to work with my community to improve literacy across the Beaumont, Texas community. As a librarian, my colleagues and I are excited to start programs and promote their impact in the community to get people more engaged.”
- Nathanial Ramos
The Goal: Empower individuals with lifelong literacy skills by providing programs that meet their needs at every stage of life.
The need: The public library in Beaumont, Texas is the only free space that has resources for learning to read, STEAM education, and adult financial literacy in the town; but its funding and resources are highly limited. Nathaniel’s project would provide a short-term burst of assistance, helping the library develop sustainable, effective programs for years to come. The library’s programs would nurture early literacy through storytimes and playgroups for young children, strengthen STEAM literacy for tweens and teens, and support financial literacy for teens and adults.
“Our profession [as librarians] is under attack. We are doing what we can with limited tools and budgets that have been frozen and don’t keep up with inflation, loss of staff due to low wages, and cities that prioritize other resources.”
